Heartful stay project

“Keep the dream of Children” is the project to find foster families for the children who lost their parents by Great Tohoku earthquake. Nearly 30,000 people died or are still missing. It occurred during school hours, so there are many case that children survived staying inside school building and parents were washed away by Tsunami. This organisation started by Mr Tetsuji Yamashita asking for help to find foster families. It was sent to his 19 facebook friends and soon won the sympathy of public. Many people offered to be foster families or cooperate for the mission.

Besides this main mission to find foster family, the organisation started ‘Heartful stay project’ to send home-stay students to overseas. It is because there are a lot of offer from overseas as well. Considering the cultural difference organisation decided to choose foster family from Japan, but discussed to interact overseas and decided to homestay students for short term.

For this project, students are chosen from disaster are who is in evacuation center. It would give them good break from tragic situation, and also it will prevent rest of the world to forget what is happening in Japan, because Japan needs long term support.

Darwin was chosen to be the first city to host home-stay students with Ms Sachi Hirayama. She is planning not only give them relief, but also show the students that many Australian and local Japanese are volunteering for fund raising. By meeting with people, it may increase exchanges between Darwin and their home town in Japan.

First plan is to send three students (from 14 to 18 years old) with one caretaker. The term is for one month in July. If you have any plan to do activity with the students, or would like to offer donation, please contact the followings.
